TAURUS NEW MOON – MAY 16, 2007
Individuals need to be listening closely to their own hearts, their own calling to new horizons. They need to pay attention to where they feel "not right"—perhaps unplug the television, go out into nature more often, look at the heavens and the night sky outside of the city. We all need to orient our lives more towards beauty, towards art, towards relationships, and towards interior self-exploration, whether it's meditation or more powerful forms of experience.
Richard Tarnas, Beliefnet interview for “Cosmos & Psyche”
The signs of the zodiac represent the progressive release of solar power to energize and create new life. New moons represent the beginning of a cycle of growth, the planting of a seed. So the New Moon in the sign of Taurus calls upon us to orient our lives towards concretizing the new life energy that we felt with the coming of Spring in the sign of Aries. Taurus is a fixed Earth sign, the energy that concentrates the Arian inspiration and works to manifest what that seed idea is all about. Dane Rudhyar says in The Pulse of Life: “Aries is the Divine Visitation, a descent of Power; but to Taurus belongs the substance of every new evolutionary progress, for Taurus is the symbol of that power which forever produces new organisms. Taurus’ keynote is evolutionary fulfillment from the depths upward.”
The only way we can manifest something is if we really believe in it. So Taurus energy revolves around finding out what we value and then nurturing it into something lasting. Taurus speaks to the perennial values – truth, beauty, love, nature, security, creativity, honor, integrity, etc. Our culture is so far removed from the natural laws of life that we often don’t have time or opportunity to think about our values, let alone live them.
This Taurus new moon asks us to find that quiet place within and tune into what we really value in life. Taurus is ruled by the energy of Venus, the great Connector. What is it that we are really connected to? Who are we connected to? How do we connect to those things we love and value? “We all need to orient our lives more towards beauty, towards art, towards relationships, and towards interior self-exploration…” This new moon, take some time to reflect on the importance of your value system in determining what kind of life you want to live.
We are coming to a time when we will most probably have to make major lifestyle changes due to global warming, the population explosion, war, etc. It is out of such crisis that a shift in our collective value system will be made. The Earth, which is so beautiful in the month of May, needs us to recognize that we are all part of her Sacred Body. What will we choose to live with and what will we choose to live without? Water? Air? Animals? Trees? Love? Instead of seeing the changes as a sacrifice, perhaps we can look to the future and see the possibilities of a different, simpler, more value-infused lifestyle. “In a culture with a soulless cosmology, you can never get enough of what you don't really need.” (Richard Tarnas)
The planet Mars will enter the sign of Aries – which it rules (feels most comfortable in) – on Tuesday, May 15th, the day before the new moon. The Marian energy will now be strong and fiery for the next 6 weeks, wanting to act – or act out if not focused. Put all that Martian energy into building up your new vision. The work will pay off – for Taurus also rules money and self-worth.
This new moon is still part of a cosmic configuration that occurred at the full moon. We are still urged by Saturn in Leo to take care of our responsibilities, and by Neptune/Chiron in Aquarius to dream big for all of us. So, look to your values to inspire you to create structures in your life which will serve you as well as all of creation. We are living in a moment in time that can change the course of history. We need to take seriously the challenges that face our world by facing those challenges in our own lives – to live more fully, more creatively, more in tune with others, with nature, with our own individual nature. One of the esoteric aspects of Taurus is that it is the sign of initiation, of testing and of teaching. Speak your truth (Taurus rules the throat chakra) to yourself so that you walk your truth in the world.
The Sabian symbol for 26 degrees of Taurus speaks to this wonderful power of creation:
A Spanish Serenader at the window-grille of his beloved.
“The power of well-defined desire which assures success in all life-contacts. Imaginative power that compels manifestation.” This yearning for the ideal gives us hope that anything is possible.
At the new moon it is always good to write down your intentions. You can write down up to 10 wishes within the first 8 hours after the exact time of the new moon (Wednesday, May 16 at 3:27 pm Edt/12:27 pm PDT). As we all know from the laws of attraction – and from this Sabian symbol - the clearer our intentions, the more passion we put into our imaginations, the likelier we are to manifest what we want. Please remember, though, to ask for what you really long for. You want the next part of your life to manifest – not some stereotype of a life that won’t fit you.
