Sagittarius Full Moon June 7 2009

Sagittarius Full Moon, June 7, 2009

Sagittarius shoots his fiery arrow heavenwards, aiming for a new vision and new consciousness.  This Sagittarius Full Moon is all about leaping over the abyss from our collapsing ‘reality’ to a spiritual vision that demands personal responsibility and breadth of vision.  Not a new world older devised by corporate dictators, but a place of individual freedom and creativity and consciousness.  This full Moon highlights two distinct planetary patterns that will be affecting us for the next few years.

This Gemini/Sagittarius Full Moon squares off against the Pisces/Virgo Uranus-Saturn opposition.  This ongoing series of 5 oppositions, which began on America’s Election Day last November, faces off the Old vs. the New.  We can never be sure while we’re still in the middle of it, but ultimately, the New always wins out.  The old order is on its way out, and we are seeing its last gasps all over the news.

The Old: With Pluto in Saturn-ruled Capricorn ‘bringing down the house’ that the corporations built, we have an opportunity to transform out-dated collective structures that form the basis of Patriarchy – a particular way of thinking that believes in male domination, the accumulation of wealth by the few, continual wars that test the survival of the fittest and a Cheney-esk  ‘father knows best’ attitude that has brought us to the brink of environmental and social disaster.  This dominator mentality has created the brutish wars and economic stranglehold that are so much a part of modern governmental, financial and corporate strategy (that’s why the measures to keep the economy afloat won’t work – they’re not new!).  It embodies a hierarchical way of thinking that places men and the masculine attitudes to life above women and the feminine energies of life.

The New:  Uranus in Pisces and Jupiter/Neptune/Chiron in Aquarius are seeding a new vision of life that is based on a partnership between masculine and feminine ideals and values.  We can be strong and peaceful, responsible and creative, factual and intuitive, rational and emotionally intelligent.  We can see our unity in the midst of diversity – we all dream, we all have the same human body, and despite our different religious ‘beliefs’ we are all created by one Spirit.  The New is a vision of peace and unity that values each individual in the group, and all groups within the whole.

With Saturn once again moving forward through Virgo, health, work and service continue to be re-defined.  Are you taking care of your health needs?  Rest, good nutrition, time for meditation and a flexible work-out schedule have to be included in your daily life now.  We need a healthy body, mind and spirit to work with the energies of the next few years.

Work is certainly an area of stress in these changing times.  When your work doesn’t serve your soul-needs, it becomes drone-work.  That’s what the corporate capitalists want: drone workers around the world, working for less, and consuming ‘stuff’ that really isn’t needed for a full life.  When you find the work that suits you, you blossom and the work becomes a metaphor for who you are.  That’s another change that has to take place in the coming years – work must be fulfilling to our souls and not just a deadening source of income as it is for so many people.

The Full Moon squaring this opposition creates a mutable grand cross, with Sun, Moon, Saturn and Uranus. The planets themselves are opposite energies – consciousness and the unconscious, structure vs. chaos.  This is a very mental configuration.  It’s about connecting our logical, concrete mind with our intuitive, abstract mind and coming to greater awareness.  The negative side is the tension that arises if you don’t focus on the issues but rather scatter your attention on non-essentials.  Greater discrimination and judgment are called for.  Use this time to become more conscious of the issues in your life and be creative with your solutions and communicate your needs to the appropriate people.

This full Moon also involves the Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron conjunction in Aquarius that is in force for the rest of the year.  Both ruling planets of this full Moon – Mercury for Gemini and Jupiter for Sagittarius – are involved in this aspect.  Mercury in Taurus turned direct on May 30th and is still in a square aspect to these three planets in Aquarius.

Whatever new categories we’ve discovered since the Gemini new Moon, it’s certain there’s a simplicity and groundedness to them.  Mercury in Taurus is pragmatic and devises simple and practical solutions to the issues at hand.  Mars and Venus are also in sensual Taurus for this full Moon, attuning us to the natural world, urging us to look to nature and observe Earth’s natural laws for guidance.  Complicated is not always better.  As a matter of fact, when we find ourselves lost, it is always better to start simple and go from there.

Jupiter and Neptune in Aquarius inspire us to see with the eyes of spirit and rise above our limitations.  Eric Meyers, in his article ‘Jupiter-Neptune: The Spiritual Landscape’ in the June/July 2009 Mountain Astrologer says: “Jupiter-Neptune provides a conceptual understanding (Jupiter) of trans-personal phenomena (Neptune).” It inspires an imaginal, mythic consciousness that helps us understand our spiritual landscape. The ancient myths of our ancestors contain the wisdom of our collective unconscious and it behooves us to step into that mythic realm and come to understand what stories we’re acting out in our personal lives and in our collective life.  There is great power in the imagination and this conjunction along with Chiron might be the healing of our wounded imaginations, which have been manipulated and abused by the mass media. Perhaps we’ll see an artistic renaissance like we had in the 60s.

These two planets, along with the asteroid Chiron, advocate ‘the audacity of hope.’  There is always hope, even in the darkest times.  This is the truth of the Winter Solstice, which comes at the end of the astrological month of Sagittarius.

While this combination of planets can give rise to delusions and spiritual confusion, the best way to use the energies is to go on your own personal vision quest and see what your soul wants to heal, in your life and in the world.  We all have a unique purpose in life, even when we don’t believe it, even when we reject it.  Sometimes that purpose isn’t fun: it isn’t about making a million dollars or having the perfect partner.  Sometimes that purpose is to fight injustice, to grow in consciousness, to learn to live differently or to take care of unfinished soul business.  The hope is that you’ll end up at peace with yourself and the world.

Another cosmic indication that suggests this is a time of hope and optimism for the future is what astrologers call a ‘mutual reception’ between Uranus in Pisces and Jupiter and Neptune in Aquarius.  This means that these planets are staying in each other’s ‘houses’.  Uranus (with Saturn) rules Aquarius and Jupiter and Neptune rule Pisces.  Mutual receptions enhance the planets ability to operate smoothly and fully.  This particular cosmic configuration has only occurred once in the past 3,000 years!

We’re still in the ‘mind’ field of the Gemini new Moon.  The Full Moon in the opposite sign of Sagittarius shows us how much our minds have expanded and changed by what we are experiencing.  Sagittarius brings awareness and meaning to the information that Gemini loves to play with.

Venus finally leaves Aries after 4 months of renewal and re-birth and goes into Taurus on June 6th.  Along with Mars in early Taurus, they square the lunar nodes at 1 Aquarius/Leo.  Any planet squaring the nodes has to be dealt with.  Venus is the ruler of Taurus and says:  All things natural and growing and beautiful – like sex, love, art, beauty and the body – must be taken into consideration when we transform the world.  The Feminine Spirit of life must be valued.

We are now in the Zone of the big Cardinal climax of 2008-2015: Pluto in early Capricorn, Saturn in early Libra, and Uranus in early Aries.  These planets will soon form a T-Square in the cardinal signs of action.  During the next few years, these planets, which played a big part in the 60s revolution, will continue to bring surprises and changes to our structures.  Be prepared to rock your world.  Forget the old visions of early retirement and easy living.  We are here to transform the world and these next years are critical.

The Sabian symbol for the Sun at 18 Gemini: Two Chinese men converse in their native tongue in an American City.  This symbol implies that we can meet like-minded people anywhere.  Find the people who ‘speak your language’ and see what ideas you can generate.

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 18 Sagittarius:  Children playing on the beach, their heads protected by sunbonnets.”  This image speaks to the need for protection as we ‘play’ with both the images of the collective unconscious (the ocean) and the shifting sands of ‘reality’.  The beach is a place of transitions, between conscious and unconscious, land and sea.  It is an appropriate place to ‘play’ because playing is the way we learn before we place limits on ourselves.  We just have to take precautions to guard against too much sun – too much conscious control.  If we want to learn something new, we have to let go of the old.

June 15 – Jupiter goes retrograde at 28 Aquarius: A tree felled and sawed to ensure a supply of wood for the winter.  This image urges us prepare for the future, using both physical and mental ingenuity.  Intelligent foresight is the name of the game.   Jupiter is retrograde until October 12-13.  Use these months to expand your inner awareness and resources.

June 15 – Mercury is back to the degree (3 Gemini) where it went retrograde.  Full speed ahead!

The Gemini special is still in effect:  $25.00 for a mini-reading to see how these energies are affecting you.  Call or write me for an appointment.

Summer is coming fast.  Enjoy the times.

Bright Blessings.
