Sagittarius Full Moon, May 27, 2010

Sagittarius Full Moon, May 27, 2010

Awakening to a new reality, perspective, or understanding is a process.  For some, it happens in a blink of an eye, a millisecond of time when one’s life is irrevocably changed.  For others, the awakening within is gradual and complex.  But fast or slow, all awakenings require change. . . and as humans, the one thing we most resist and tend to fear is change.   Therefore, consciously awakening is perhaps one of the most courageous things an Individual can do.

Get ready to step into the Fire!

This full Moon in Sagittarius fires up the mind with creative inspiration while Uranus’ entry into Aries hours after the full Moon will bring the fire to you in a big way.

Once Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, enters Aries on June 6th and then joins Uranus on June 8th, the flames will grow even brighter and hotter.  Fire is dangerous as well as beautiful.  You have to know how to work with fire.  So become a fire-keeper and learn how to serve the sacred fires of Life.

Fire can either be a force of creation or a force for destruction.  It’s your choice how you view it and how you use it.  This full Moon will fuel the fires with optimism and enthusiasm, originality and spontaneity crackling alongside impatience and recklessness, obstinacy and nervous tension.

Standing in the fires can inspire in you a pioneering spirit and a sense of adventure, along with charisma, charm, daring, creativity, inspiration and confidence.  Standing in the fires can burn through you as aggression, impulsiveness, restlessness, frustration, arrogance, willfulness and intolerance.

Once again, the choice is yours!  How will you meet the fire?

That’s the point of this full Moon in Gemini/Sagittarius: how do we recognize and give meaning to what is happening in the world and in our lives?  The explosive energies at play get channeled through this full Moon.

Full Moons are times to become aware of what was planted at the new Moon.  So there is a built-in consciousness factor.  This is especially true of this full Moon that deals with the Mind.

The Sagittarius full Moon on May 27, 2010 at 11:08pmGMT /7:08pmEDT/4:08pmPDT occurs in the two signs that deal with the Mind: Gemini is the lower mind that conceptualizes and Sagittarius represents the higher mind that seeks meaning.  Gemini wants to put things in categories and loves to gossip; Sagittarius needs to find meaning and truth in life and wants to talk philosophies.  We need to find ways to combine both the worldly and other-worldly aspects of the Mind.

The full Moon asks us to balance the Mind between outer worldly understanding and inner spiritual wisdom.  The Mind is not just our rationality; it also encompasses our emotional intelligence.  To be in our right minds means we can combine head and heart in a balanced and focused way.

It is the Mind which focuses and tames Fire so we can use it.

So we need to be asking ourselves some important questions.  Do we know our own Mind?  Does our lower mind own us?  How do we use the Mind to enhance or detract from our purpose in life? How do we understand the world? What are our beliefs about life? Are our beliefs still viable or even realistic in the face of the changes we are going through? How do we make choices?

We’ll probably all change our minds many times before these energies have their way with us.  Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, is the messenger of the Gods.  He can travel across borders and boundaries of all kinds – even between other worlds and dimensions.  So he can open the mind to other ways of seeing.  Gemini, the sign of the twins, seeks to unite our human and divine sides by giving us the ability to know ourselves.

Mercury – and the lower mind – is a Trickster.  Tricksters can get us into trouble at the same time as they open us up to unexpected new directions and new plans.  That’s because Trickster is a change agent.  Trickster, like the Fool, doesn’t buy into a set plan and can change his mind to meet any new situation.

That’s what we need now that the world as we know it is breaking down.  We have to be open to taking alternative routes to travel to where we want to go.  We need to rewire how we think.   Trickster helps us find the balance between being prepared and being open for surprise and accident.

Mercury is also the god of communication.   We have to open up communications, both with ourselves and with others.  Once you know your own mind, you can also work with a group mind.  You can name a problem and have each person in the group go within to seek an answer.  Then as you discuss and listen to all the answers and various ways of seeing the issue, you’ll probably find your solution.

Mercury in Taurus gives us some practical common sense.  Jupiter in the last degrees of Pisces, the ruler of Sagittarius, makes sure that Mercury is communicating Cosmic Truth in a practical way.  What’s more real than the horrific disaster in the Gulf? No matter what BP or the government says, we can see the deep Truth: our way of life is destructive to all life on the planet.  So what are we going to do about it?

That’s where free will and choice come into the picture. When Uranus travels through Aries for the next seven years, we will be asked to awaken to ourselves as heroes and pioneers.  We are the scouts of the future.  It is up to us to envision and then create a new society of fairness, justice, creativity and peace.  Why not?  The society we have is often dull and boring, sinking to the lowest, common denominator.  Why not raise the level and go for the best?

Each of us is a potential leader.  In a way, this is what true anarchy is: a social state where order and individual responsibility prevail because each individual rules themselves – as long as you harm none, do as you will.

The last time Uranus traveled through the sign of Aries was from 1927-35, turbulent times that echo our own.  The financial crash of 1929, the rise of Nazism, Gandhi’s peaceful revolution, Roosevelt’s New Deal all mirror the issues we are facing: continuous wars, environmental disasters, a failed financial system and the rise of fanaticism as well as positive social activism.

The last time Uranus was in Aries, it was squaring (a 90* angle) Pluto in Cancer.  Squares create tension and mark major turning points in life that call us to take action.  With Pluto in Cancer, it was all about securing a good life.  As we now know, that vision has failed us.  It said a ‘good life’ meant accumulating lots of things.  We now know that things alone can’t bring us happiness or security.  Human beings need creativity and love, community and meaning to feel secure.  We need depth and soul.

Now Uranus will square Pluto in Capricorn 7 times between 2012-2015, continuing the cycle between these two planets of evolution and revolution that began in the 60s.  It is time to bring the reforms and cultural vision of the 60s into our collective life.  We need to re-form our government, our corporate structures, our relationship to the Earth and her resources, and our society as a whole.  We need to feel we each have a destiny and a purpose. That’s what freedom really means.

Uranus in Aries is a wake-up call to each of us to become individuals.  It is the call to action, a call to live out our destiny.  We need to grow up as a species and become the caretakers of the Earth.  We have to realize that it is our destiny to contribute to the health and life of our world, instead of being a cog in the economic well-being of the System.

This might be the first time in human history that people can consciously focus the cosmic energies for a higher collective purpose instead of being dragged down to the lowest levels of humanity as we deal with the overwhelming changes that are upon us.

So use this full Moon energy to decide what you really believe in and how you want to meet the times.  This full Moon asks you to deal with Fire.  You can let it burn through you in disruptive and destructive ways by not taming the lower mind or you can hone your Mind into a sword of Light and Truth.

Remember the Sabian symbol from the Taurus New Moon: An Indian warrior riding fiercely, human scalps hanging from his belt.   As much as we want to create a peaceful world, we can’t get rid of warriors.  There is an archetypal warrior within each of us.  It’s how we view and use this energy that makes the difference.   We have to become warriors that protect life rather than soldiers who fight Death.

Astrological wisdom says the next sign of the Zodiac balances the previous one.  If Taurus is asking us to be an Earth warrior, then the Gemini-Sagittarius full Moon balances it by saying, “Use your wholistic Mind to create healing for the Earth – visualize it, feel it and send it!”  That’s one way to fight back.  It also says, “Use your whole Mind to cut through the lies and illusions and stand in your truth.”  Stay true to what you believe and stand up for it.

There is an amazing movie about this transformation of the warrior archetype called The Fountain – and you can read my review of it at Star of the Bards: The Fountain

The old order – the patriarchy – is on its way out.  We need a new perspective, a new understanding of our place in the universe as co-creators of our reality.  We have collectively created a Wasteland, and for some people and environments a living Hell.  Is this the world we want to live in?

The Sabian symbol for the Sun at 7* Gemini is: A well with bucket and rope under the shade of majestic trees.  The well is a symbol of the feminine principle of nurturing and healing, a source of life and growth. A well is also a human construct for securing the nurturing waters that feed the majestic trees.  Trees symbol Life – our separate and unique growth in life.  The rope and bucket give us the capacity to pull those waters up for our use. This symbol tells us that we need to connect to the deep inner source of our being, our soul. We have the techniques and tools to do it.  Connecting to our divine Self will nurture the Mind in the right way and give us the wisdom to heal ourselves and our planet.

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 7* Sagittarius is: Cupid knocks at the door of a human heart.  Cupid or Eros is the lover of Soul or Psyche.  To have the god of Desire knock on our heart says – find your passion.  If you know what you feel passionate about, you’ll know what knowledge and wisdom to seek.  We all need an emotional rebirth!

The Waters of Life and Love will renew us if we develop a balanced Mind.  Love leads the way.  The Mind finds the way.

    Remember:  Tend your Fire!

Saturday May 22:  Saturn in Virgo opposes Jupiter in Pisces. Feeling frustrated.  Break free in a disciplined way.  Dance, sing, drum – give the Pisces energy a physical, expressive way to manifest joyously.  This is the first of three oppositions between the planet of expansion (Jupiter) and the planet of contraction and discipline (Saturn).  They are at the full Moon aspect of their cycle.  Their cycle represents the social realities we all have to deal with.  What do you know now about your career and/or dharma that you didn’t know at their conjunction in 2000?  What do you need to adjust?

Sunday, May 23: Venus is Cancer opposes Pluto in Capricorn.  What do we really need to feel emotionally secure?  Pluto lets us know what our society doesn’t have to offer, hopefully helping us hone in on what really matters.

Thursday, May 27: the Gemini-Sagittarius Full Moon.  Uranus goes into Aries.  See above.

Sunday, May 30: Saturn turns direct at 28*Virgo: A baldheaded man who has seized power.  This could indicate that the ‘scalped’ men have won out, but I prefer to think that Captain Jean-Luc Picard has taken back control of his ship, the Enterprise, from the invaders.  I picture Picard as an Ego in relationship to the Self, asking advice from both his intellect (Ryker) and his emotional intelligence (Counselor Troy).  Or perhaps having no preconceived ideas (no hair) about life gives you power now.  Keep working your health and body disciplines while Saturn finishes his stay in Virgo.  He’ll go back into Libra on July 21.

Monday, May 31:  Neptune turns retrograde at 29* Aquarius:  A butterfly emerging from a chrysalis.  The message is that metamorphosis is complete.  Radical change is upon us.  Let your Soul emerge and fly free.  It’s a time of initiation and evolution.  It’s time to rock ‘n roll!

Saturn and Neptune are in a long term inconjunct (150*), so the planet of ‘reality’ and the planet of ‘other realities’ must make adjustments.  Inconjuncts force us to change our behavior or beliefs in some way. If your soul is your truest Self, then how will you manifest it?  Perfect your technique.  Set possible goals, over-come self-doubt, accept only your fair share of responsibility and get disciplined about your creativity.

Friday, June 4: Chiron turns retrograde at 1* Pisces: In a crowded marketplace, farmers and middlemen display a great variety of products. It’s time to take our vision into the collective, where it can help heal the community at large.  It’s not big government or corporations that have the new ideas.  It’s us!

Saturday-Sunday, June 5-6:  Jupiter goes into Aries.  See above.  Jupiter in Aries is a time to test your courage and your faith in yourself.

Tuesday, June 8: Uranus conjuncts Jupiter at 1* Aries:  A Woman just risen from the Sea.  A seal embraces her.  This very first degree of the zodiac indicates the new forms and possibilities that can arise from the collective unconscious.  The woman who rose from the sea is Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, the whole woman who isn’t afraid to connect to and love anyone who desires her.  She is the mother of our soul.  The seal symbolizes the love and longing we all feel in our souls.  Listen to the unconscious now in your dreams and visions.

This Woman is a potent symbol of our Awakening.  When Love was born into our world, we were blessed beyond measure.  Let us be grateful for the gift and honor it.  Love can transform the world!

    Bright Blessings on us all!
