Pisces Solar Eclipse & Spring Equinox, March 18-20, 2007
On Sunday, March 18th at 10:43 pm EDT and 7:43 pm PDT, there is a Solar (New Moon) Eclipse at 29 degrees of Pisces. Since last September (when there was a New Moon Eclipse at 29 Virgo) all the new moons occurred in the 29th degree of the signs, marking a time of initiation and choice for all of us. There is a great awakening happening at this moment in time, both individually and politically. And 2007 is a 9 year, a completion and harvest year. For the past 6 months, we have been given the choice of greater consciousness and hope. There is a new birth on the horizon.
Just as new moons symbolize new beginnings, solar eclipses close out major chapters in our lives and mark a new cycle and a new beginning. This old cycle began 19 years ago, with a solar eclipse on March 18, 1988. What was going on in your life that spring, and what have you completed from that time?
Eclipses appear in the mythology and literature of different cultures and different ages, most often as symbols of obliteration, fear, and the overthrow of the natural order of things. The word eclipse comes from a Greek word meaning "abandonment." An eclipse was seen as the sun abandoning the earth. A recurring and pervasive embodiment of the eclipse was a dragon, or a demon, who devours the sun.
Astrologer Nina Gryphon says that “during an eclipse, the Sun, Earth and Moon are aligned, and for just an instant, we get a glimpse of the thread connecting us to the world above, and through the thread, a hint of the upper world itself.” The thread is what ties us together, giving meaning both to the cosmos and to our own story. We can experience an eclipse as a time of spiritual awareness, a time when our old patterns of behavior are disrupted and we can move easily into new consciousness.
Take some time on Sunday to meditate on how you want to bring into this new life. Visualize what you really want to happen and write your intentions down. (All new moons are good times to do this.) With Spring Equinox in two days, this is an especially potent New Moon Eclipse. May Spirit give us grace and blessings.
The Sabian symbol for 29 degrees Pisces, the last sign of the Zodiac, which deals with our return to our true home and to Spirit says: “Light breaking into many colors as it passes through a prism.” This is a symbol of the beauty of diversity within unity and of the unity of science and spirituality. Gregg Braden, author of Rewriting the Reality Code: The Quantum Power of Living From The Answer, talks about the union of science and spirituality and the possibilities of human consciousness. “From the monasteries of Egypt and Tibet to the forgotten texts of our most cherished traditions we are reminded that we are part of, rather than separate from, the world around us. As part of everything we see, we have the power to participate — not control or manipulate — but to consciously chart the course of our lives and our world.” With truth, humility and love, we can be ourselves and live a life of creativity, service and joy.
This new moon eclipse is squared by Pluto at 29 degrees Sagittarius, which wants to burn up the remnants of old belief systems that deny the unity of spirit and matter. We are challenged to let go of the fears festering in our unconscious, caused by religious traditions which attach blame and sin to our sexuality, freedom, and lack of money, health or success. The Puritan ethic is very similar to the new age belief that we create our own reality – especially when it lays blame on people who get sick or have no money. What we must remember is that we are all here for our soul’s purpose, which is to grow in consciousness. While we are beginning to understand that we can create our reality, there is more ambiguity in how this occurs then what you might read in The Secret. When we make the choice to accept what comes to us while still living our lives with joy and love, this is the true power of attraction.

Spring Equinox is on March 20th this year. The day of balancing light and darkness. We have arrived at the astrological new year. Once again, we are engaged in the energy of birth. We’ve been in transition (the most intense labor pains just before birth) but the new life that is coming is worth every moment of consciousness we’ve gleaned from it. The Spring Equinox chart asks us to use our creativity for the greater good of all, and to put our attention onto our health and our work. We are most comfortable in our relationships, which need to be sensual and committed to ground us for our soul’s work and worth.
