Pisces Full Moon, September 15, 2008

We're seeing the beginnings of a large work force for social change

that offer not only a paycheck, but also the chance to do good.”

Phyllis Segal, VP for Civic Ventures

It seems there is a growing movement - an estimated 1.1 million already - among baby boomers (Pluto in Leo) to move out of the corporate world and go to work in non-profit organizations, with millions more to follow in the coming years. About ½ of the 78 million boomers are interested in jobs that help others. (Dallas Morning News)

Whew! I guess the past few years of the Neptune in Aquarius -Saturn in Leo opposition did its work. (Saturn and Neptune danced together for the past few years, giving us the chance to change our ways, open up our eyes and step forward to help the group, rather than just ourselves.) My generation has finally decided to grow up and help the world. This was always the end game for us. With Pluto in Leo teaching us about our self-worth, our creativity and our individuality, we are then pushed to give back to our people in ways that previous generations did not. Now we can help the younger generations create a better world for them and their children.

This news article brings up many of the Pisces full Moon issues: work, service, integrity, personal responsibility. Let's see how we're doing!

What have you accomplished during these two weeks since the Virgo new Moon? Are you still spinning your straw into gold? A full Moon asks us to reflect on and see what form we have built up during the waxing two weeks of the Moon cycle. With the new Moon we set the seed in the soil, a new vision that came from an unconscious need. After going through the last month with two eclipses in Leo, you might have felt the need to BE yourself, to Do what only you can do. The first two weeks of a Moon cycle are given over to instinctually building up a pattern of behavior, until we create a form that reflects our vision, our need, our desire.

The full Moon gives us that reflection. The full Moon asks us to become conscious now, to use our objective consciousness to assess our progress and know the original desire (Sun) as well as the purpose of the form (Moon). Like the Queen in Rumpelstiltskin, we now have to discover the name of the elemental force which is driving us to accomplish something unique.

What is the purpose of your life? That's the Virgo question. Since Virgo comes at the end of summer we could also say, what have you harvested this year? This full Moon is called the Harvest Moon, and we need to look at ourselves and see if we've built up the proper form that can reap the benefits of a good harvest in the coming months. Since full Moons occur when the Sun is opposite the Moon, these are times of stress and polarization. Can we bear the tension of opposites and pull the two poles together, creating a new third possibility? What happens when we don't?

So what makes the Virgo/Pisces full Moon different from other full Moons? Pisces and Virgo both have to do with integration – how we integrate our personality and how we integrate ourselves with the world soul.

Virgo demands that we integrate our personality in such a way that our values and sense of self-worth, our mind and our beliefs, our family inheritance, and our creative talents work fruitfully together. Virgo does this by discerning who we really are. Virgo brings together body, mind and spirit in a fruitful union. Virgo says, Know Thyself!

Pisces demands that we give up our ego-desires and give ourselves over to the demands of Spirit. Pisces represents the World Soul – that collective unconscious that unites us all. It's the place where we – as separate drops of water – flow back into the ocean of life. What has our separation and our individuality brought back to the collective pot? Pisces says, Trust! Trust that Spirit only asks what you can give.

Have we spun our straw into gold? Only when we can name ourselves can we create a new life that is not given over to servitude to an unconscious complex or collective uniformity. The king/the collective dominant who is greedy for more gold will sell his soul – or force his feminine feeling side into service – to the collective forces which would rather feed on our individuality than support it.

This full Moon in Pisces is important because, like the Virgo new Moon, it highlights the beginning phase of a series of 5 oppositions over the next year between Saturn in Virgo and Uranus in Pisces that will be exact for the first time on Election day (November 4th ) this year. This opposition is between the forces of revolutionary change and the forces of crystallization and fear. The new vs. the old.

The Pisces Moon is conjunct Uranus, accentuating the awakening of the collective unconscious to give us new insights about what we are facing on the world stage and what Spirit will ask of us in response. The Sun in Virgo is near Saturn, asking us to discipline ourselves and simplify our lives, get healthy and understand that we are here to serve our community and the world.

We are once again engaging in the struggle between the old ways and the new that began in the '60s. With John McCain and Barak Obama vividly representing the two opposing energies, the cosmos is letting us know that this isn't just a political fight between the red states and the blue states. This is a cosmic demand to recognize that the old must make way for the new, but the new must also recognize and value the important things that need to be conserved from the old ways.

Saturn is the Reality principle, the Guardian at the Gate, the energy of responsibility as well as crystallization and frustration. Saturn in Virgo can discriminate what is worth keeping and what must be let go of as we begin the second decade of the 21st Century. Virgo rules the environment, the health industry as well as our personal health, work, small animals, research, craftsmanship, mentors and body-oriented practices such as yoga and tai chi. What do we need that will enhance these aspects of life? These are the things we must conserve.

Uranus is called the Awakener, the Revolutionary, the Liberator. Uranus is a wild card energy which turns everything upside down. So expect the unexpected. Uranus in Pisces is ripping the veils from our collective eyes and showing us the falsehood and hypocrisy of our leaders and corporate structures, the addictions we have to oil as well as intoxicants, the secret sorrows and not so secret sufferings of the poor and powerless. It is also opening our eyes to other dimensions of spirit, giving ordinary people visions and intuitive understanding. The great power of the Feminine is arising once more – not just for outer equality between women and men, but as an inner awakening of the feminine gifts of intuition, feeling and empathy.

Bring these images into your own life and see how you can find a way to balance the trust and hope that your dreams and visions give you with the discipline and discernment of your practical reality. It comes down to linking your head with your heart. Trust your heart to know what you need. Then use your head to get it. The rulers of Pisces (Neptune) and Virgo (Mercury) are trining each other, so they are helping us achieve this blending of head and heart.

Since Pluto squares this full Moon, and since it just turned direct on September 8th, it anchors this opposition, drawing its energy and intensifying its need to let go of whatever beliefs (Sagittarius) hold us back from CHANGE. Whether you vote for Obama or not, he got the cosmic message. Change or be forced to change. The more we resist the change, the harder will be our fall.

Pluto is now on his way out of the sign of Sagittarius, where he took up residence in 1995. By the end of this year, he will take up residence in Capricorn, where this transformative energy will get to work on our government, corporate and cultural structures. Hopefully, the planet's stay in Sagittarius has transformed our religious systems as well as our beliefs about ourself and our world. We have some hard work ahead of us if we're going to heal the toxic poisons our corporations have poured into the environment, repair our climate and finally establish the country that our founders set out to establish – one that is NOT run by corporate manipulations but an America which is finally governed BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE.

The Sabian Symbol for the Sun at 23 Virgo: A lion tamer displays his skill and character. This image could also be the Tarot card Strength, the ability to tame our instincts to fulfill our destiny.

The Sabian Symbol for the Moon at 23 Pisces: A materializing medium giving a séance. This image speaks to our ability to manifest our dreams and our life's purpose.

Other aspects:

There is a grand Earth trine between Saturn in Virgo, Jupiter in Capricorn and the asteroid Vesta in Taurus. This energy pattern helps us to manifest our talents if we work hard because the collective needs those talents.

Venus, Mercury and Mars in Libra are all traveling together and adding a sense of balance and harmony to this process of integration. This group of planets says that if you and your purpose has worth for the collective, you will be accepted and valued.

September 11th – Venus and Mars conjunction at 16 Libra. “After a storm a boat landing stands in need of reconstruction.” This symbol, coming as it does on 9/11, speaks to the need for each of us to find ways to keep the channels open between the Unconscious and our Ego-awareness. We have to remember, 'We won't be fooled again!” The only way for each of us to KNOW the truth of what we are seeing and experiencing in the world is to have an open channel to our own inner wisdom. My advice: pay attention to your dreams!

September 14th – Mercury conjunct Venus. A good day for group protest! Or at least, speak your mind about your vision of the world.

September 20th – Sun square Pluto. This is when we really reach the crossroads of the year – let go of what we don't need so what we do retain has a chance to grow strong. At 20 degrees of Virgo and Sagittarius, this crossroads indicates that we need to winnow out the wheat from the chaff, and get rid of any remaining limiting beliefs that keep us in fear.

September 22nd – Autumn Equinox. The Sun goes into Libra.

September 24th – Mercury Retrograde!! 23 Libra: A chanticleer's voice heralds sunrise. This is an image of our capacity for renewal. Mercury going retrograde at this point says that we really need three weeks to clarify this and make sure we know what we're doing.
