The Cosmic Story: Aries Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse 2015

The Cosmic Story: Aries Lunar Eclipse, September 27-28, 2015

Equinox Lunar Eclipse

This month's Aries Full Moon is very powerful, so don't be surprised by the surprises that come your way. It's the Harvest Moon, the Full Moon closest to the Autumn Equinox. It is the 4th consecutive Blood Moon total lunar eclipse in the last two years, a rare occurrence called a tetrad. It is also the second and most powerful Super Moon this year, when the Moon comes the closest to Earth in its elliptical orbit—as well as closely aligning with the Lunar Nodes. This means the Moon will look BIG!

So this lunar eclipse will create extra strong tides and energy flows, disrupting sleep and energy levels. Added to this, when eclipses occur near the equinoxes, a time when the Earth's magnetic field decreases, they aid us in making rapid changes, releasing old energy patterns so there's energy available to create new forms. Needless to say, the energies will be intense. Give these energies a week or so to calm down before you try to integrate what you've learned.

The first in this tetrad series of lunar eclipses was on April 15th 2014 at 26* Libra/Aries, the second was on October 8th 2014 at 16* Aries/Libra, the third was on April 4th 2015 at 15* Libra/Aries and the fourth and last is this eclipse on September 27th 2015 at 5* Aries/Libra. Whatever houses are occupied by Aries and Libra in your astrology chart will determine which aspects of your life have gone through tremendous changes and awakenings during these two years. In general, it's been a process of learning to be less self-concerned and more partnership oriented.

All four eclipses occurred in the signs of Aries and Libra because the Lunar Nodes have been moving through these signs for the past year and half. The Lunar Nodes point to a collective lesson we all have to work through, old patterns to be dropped and new lessons to be learned. With the South Node in Aries, we've been called on to let go of our old behavior patterns of reacting to situations with anger, domination and aggression, as well as our need to 'go it alone'. The Libra North Node calls us to learn cooperation, diplomacy and partnership equality. This has played out on the world stage with the Iran Nuclear Treaty, with war mongers in the US Congress opting to stay with the old patterns of war, fear and aggression while diplomacy won out.

With this last Aries Blood Moon total lunar eclipse, it's time to integrate the endings, awakenings, transformations and death and rebirth experiences related to the balance of Self and Other, completing our initiation into a more balanced exchange between the masculine and feminine energies of life as well as between women and men.

Libra: The Art of Partnership

All new things start with our choices. Our free will is our greatest gift, and yet many people don't use theirs. That's when we get stuck in life and can't seem to find a way out. Being a victim entails not seeing options in our lives. We shut down on life. Being an optimist means that we see different opportunities and choices we can make. There are possibilities in life.

Choices begin the process of change. Our brain chemistry changes when we make choices. Making a choice signals our brain that we're ready to begin a journey. So the choice is the first step in changing our behaviors.

A song we sing at the Equinoxes urges us to make those choices.

Onward we go round the spiral

Touching darkness, touching light

Twice each year we rest in balance,

Make choices on this night. Make choices on this night.

Partnership is a choice. We choose to share our life, our work, our country and our projects with another person. How we engage in our partnerships is the focus of this Lunar Eclipse. These past two years have seen the rise of our Collective Shadow regarding the Other—people who are 'not like us'. When we fear the Other, we refuse partnership and choose to stand alone. That choice leads us down a path of fear, resentment and scapegoating.

On a personal level, when we either consciously or unconsciously choose to distrust our partners, refusing to open our hearts to true intimacy and share what we're really feeling and thinking, we create victim-hood and misunderstanding. When women use our power to manipulate our partners because we fear we won't get what we want, we refuse intimacy and true partnership. If men continue to dominate their partners, wanting control over this shared experience, they create distance and distrust, which in turn breaks down partnerships. Our relationships suffer from this imbalance.

These four lunar eclipses in Aries, the sign of self-identity, and Libra, the sign of balanced partnership, bring these issues to consciousness. This last eclipse in the series speaks to our need to finally transform our old patterns and break free from fear so we make the choice for change. (Saturn finally leaving Scorpio will help.) This means each of us must know what we want and be willing to work with our partners to create a balanced outcome. Women and feminine consciousness MUST come into balance with men and masculine consciousness. Together we are stronger than we are alone.

Lunar eclipses occur when the shadow of the Earth moves across the face of the Moon, cutting off the sunlight. Usually, full Moons help us become aware of something within us, some feeling or belief that we keep hidden. At a lunar eclipse, these feelings and beliefs come out unconsciously. You could say, our shadow is showing. So look for your Shadow turning up this weekend, and instead of pushing it back into the Unconscious, embrace it, name it and allow it into your life. This is the ultimate choice—stay open to all of yourself and own it. Then take it into your relationships and work consciously to include those rejected parts of yourself. If your partners are strong, they'll accept these elements of your personality and learn to work with them.

The point is to keep your standpoint, try to find the compromises that work for both of you, and communicate with grace, openness and love.

Aries Lunar Eclipse, September 27-28, 2015

The Aries Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse occurs on September 27th at 7:50pm PDT/ 10:50pm EDT and on September 28th at 2:50am GMT. The eclipse is visible in pretty much all parts of the world except eastern Asia.

The asteroid Juno/Hera is conjunct the Sun. Juno represents the archetype of true partnership, the urge to share and unite with another. The Sabian symbol for the Sun and Juno at 5* Libra is: A man revealing to his students the foundation of an inner knowledge upon which a 'new world' could be built. The Teacher appears when the student is ready. The knowledge of how to create a new world is within us and the Teacher shows us the way to access our own wisdom. The Sun represents our self-awareness which can accept these instructions. Juno here suggests that this new order entails equality between men and women and between masculine and feminine consciousness. We are here to learn how to 'BE' ourselves so we can change how we DO things. That means we have to learn to listen to our right-brain, feminine consciousness and use our left-brain masculine consciousness to 'make it so'.

With the Sun conjunct the Libra North Node, gaining this inner knowledge is important. Do your inner work as the Virgo Solar Eclipse energy unfolds within you. Know ThySelf! And a new world order will awaken within you.

The Sabian symbol for the Libra North Node at 1* Libra is: In a collection of perfect specimens of many biological forms, a butterfly displays the beauty of its wings, its body impaled by a fine dart. This image feels like it speaks to the archetypal patterns of life. The butterfly, which goes through a metamorphosis into a state of beauty and freedom, symbolizes these perfect forms which shape our lives. It is now that we see the sacredness of life. And the new world coming into being is more beautiful than we can imagine.

The Moon is in Aries, conjunct both the South Node and the asteroid Vesta. The Aries Moon is what will be eclipsed, so it is our unconscious need to assert our identity that gives rise to our Shadow. With Vesta here, the sacred fires of life can burn away the old patterns that arise from our South Node past. Vesta helps us turn aggression into determination, anger into self-empowerment, and selfishness into an offer of protection and service.

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 5 * Aries is: A triangle with wings. This mystical symbol lifts us to a higher level of consciousness, helping us envision new possibilities. The triangle is related to the number 3, the energy of process and becoming. With the wings attached, the symbol shows us a process of ascension and awakening.

The Sabian symbol for Vesta at 6* Aries is: A square, with one of its sides brightly illumined. There is an archetypal instinct for stability associated with this symbol. The one illumined side becomes the focus of this stability. This can be associated with Vesta's fires. Vesta or Hestia was the goddess of the hearthfire, the container for the fires of life. Vesta can give us focus, clarity and dedication to our choices. Her sacred flames can purify the ego and transform the shadows that arise with this eclipse. With both Juno and Vesta involved in this eclipse, both men and women can be empowered to handle partnerships on a higher level of awareness. We are being called to spiritual partnerships, where we grow together in consciousness and love. As we teach each other the steps of this new dance of equality and love, the possibilities of life will multiply.

The Sabian symbol for the South Node at 1* Aries is: A woman just risen from the sea. A seal embraces her. Here we have an image of the new feminine arising from the collective unconscious. This new form cannot be contaminated by the old emotional blackmail of patriarchy. When we embrace this new feminine energy, the old rules fall away and our natural instincts will guide us to higher levels of consciousness.

We are still feeling the effects of the mystical and imaginative Neptune in Pisces opposition to curious and expansive Jupiter in Virgo. Now we add Saturn in Sagittarius squaring both planets, forming a T-square. This challenges us to bring our spiritual awareness into our beliefs. It's time to integrate body, soul and spirit.

Bright Blessings as we head into Autumn!

What is the key
To untie the knot of your mind’s suffering?

Is the esoteric secret
To slay the crazed one whom each of us
Did wed

And who can ruin
Our heart’s and eye’s exquisite tender

Hafiz has found
Two emerald words that

That I now cling to as I would sacred
Tresses of my Beloved’s

Act great.
My dear, always act great.

What is the key
To untie the knot of the mind’s suffering?

Benevolent thought, sound
And movement.
