«Astrology can be defined as a technique for the study of life-cycles. Its main purpose is to establish the existence of regular patterns in the sequence of events constituting man's inner and outer experience: then, to use the knowledge of these patterns in order to control or give meaning to these experiences. . . . gaining understanding and wisdom, which is the goal of the {conscious person}. Indeed, the study of cycles . . . is the root of all significant knowledge…»

    Dane Rudhyar, «The Lunation Cycle»

New Moons are a time of darkness and silence, the dark earth that receives the seed, the dark of the cosmic void, the dark of our inner world. It is not the darkness that is so often equated with ‘evil’ but the darkness that balances the light. During the New Moon, the bright face of the Moon is turned away from Earth, looking out into the Sun and the Cosmos where the new seed energy will come from. We here on Earth receive that energy in the darkness of unknowing. We can experience a new birth.

I mentioned in earlier newsletters that we are in a cycle when the Full Moon in a sign comes before the New Moon. We interprete this energy such: the New Moon energy is «instinctual growth and the yearning for expansion» while the Full Moon energy is «the conscious way» the power of choice. When the Full Moon comes first, we make conscious choices about how we live our lives, so that when the New Moon energy comes, we can consciously plant the seeds of the next stage of instinctual growth.

What have you learned in the past few weeks and days that can help you set your truest intentions this New Moon? It is time to be receptive and open to the unknown truths that are being born within you.

Aries is one of the signs (the other is Libra) when night and day are equally balanced. With the New Moon in the first sign of the zodiac this Tuesday, we need to go into the darkness and plant the seed we wish to grow in the light this year.

We are blessed here on Earth with the opportunity to start again – each year and each month, as well as each day and moment of our lives. The cycles of the year are the rhythms we live with, the rhythms that grow our souls. The rhythm of a New Moon is the moment of silence, the pause, the held breath between inhale and exhale. In that dark silence, we have the opportunity to set our intentions. Since the divine Spirit has given us this energetic help, it would be ungrateful of us to not use it consciously, because, one way or the other, whatever is in our unconscious at the moment of the New Moon is what will manifest in our lives.

On the Aries New Moon, we are offered the chance to set our intentions fiercely and passionately (Aries’ traits) for this New Year (Aries representing the astrological new year). So what do you want to manifest this year?

Take time on Tuesday morning or Monday night before bed (7:36 am EDT/4:36 am PDT) to center yourselves in your sacred space (I always call it the Heart Room) and see the new life you want to manifest. See it, feel it, love it, live it. Make sure that your soul knows what it is that you will be growing this year. Just as an acorn is imprinted with instructions to grow into an oak tree, make sure your ‘seed’ is imprinted with your intentions.

The Sun and Moon in Aries are in a flowing aspect to Pluto in Sagittarius, giving us the ability to strip away any limiting beliefs we have about our ability to create our own lives. Saturn, the planet of change, is in Leo and is about to turn direct on April 19th, after being retrograde since last December. Those baby-boomers who were born between 1949 and 1955 have Pluto between 18-25 degrees of Leo, and Saturn has been challenging us to take up our responsibilities and our power. It is time to share our unique gifts with the world. After April 19th, be prepared to step into the world with confidence and creativity. For everyone, look to see where 18-25 degrees of Leo lies in your chart – that is where you can expect to see real change in your life if you have been doing your work.

The Sabian symbol for 28 degrees Aries is: “A crowd applauds a man who shattered a dear illusion. “ Liberate the mind by cutting through false ideas and ideals. Trust in direct perceptions and instincts. Look to see where 28 degrees of Aries lies in your chart. This is where the new impulse of life lies for you this year.
